IMPORTANT INFO. ON BAND PHYSICALS

May 3, 2019

Dear Band Parents/Legal Guardians,

As many of you may know or have heard, UIL has passed down a new rule regarding fall marching band. Effective immediately, all high school band members will need to have a physical exam prior to any and all marching activities for the 2019 marching season. If a student is in both band and another athletic activity, they most likely already have their physical form and have completed their physical examination. Please do your due diligence and check on this matter. Those particular students will NOT have to go through the process again for band, but the student/parent will need to bring a copy of the physical form for the band to keep on file.

I am in the process of working with our head athletic trainer on obtaining a list of students that still need their physical examination. Once I obtain this information, the student(s) will be notified and will need to get their physicals taken care of over the summer break.

This is a brand new addition to high school band rules and regulations across the state of Texas, so I appreciate your patience and understand as we try to refine this process for the future. As of right now, students will need to be responsible for their own physical examinations prior to summer band starting on July 29 (July 22 for 9th grade). I would contact your healthcare provider and inquire about the cost of the physical exam with regards to health insurance. If you do not have health insurance, our head trainer was kind enough to provide the following information for our benefit:

*Anderson Drug- $10-25 (price may vary) located in Athens

*Athens Quick Care- $40 (located in Athens)

*Xpress Chiropractic - $10 (located in Tyler)

If a student does not bring their physical form to the start of summer band, I cannot legally allow said student to participate in any marching activities until the situation is remedied by bringing the completed physical form.

Again, thank you for your patience and understanding with regards to this new rule from UIL. Please feel free to email at the provided address (smorman@athensisd.net) if you have any questions regarding band physicals.

Warmest Regards,

Stephen Morman
