Parent/Student Partnership: The most effective learning takes place when schools, parents, and students work together.

The Purpose of AISD is to graduate every student on time, college and work ready.

What is Title I?

Title I is the largest federal aid program for elementary, middle and high schools.

Through Title I, money is given to school districts around the country based on the number of low-income families in each district. Each district uses its Title I money for extra educational services for children most in need of educational help. The focus of the Title I program is on helping all students meet the same high standards expected of all children.

Title I serves children through: School-wide Programs

Schools with 50% or more children from low-income families can develop school-wide programs to serve all students. School-wide programs can combine Title I funds with federal, state, and local funds to improve school programs.

Target Assistance Programs

Title I schools will work out a plan and program to make sure children at a Title I campus meet the same high-quality standard of performance.

 WHAT PARENTS SHOULD KNOW:

All students should work toward the same standards:

Title I will provide help to students who need it in order to ensure they reach the same standards as everyone else in their school.  Standards describe what students should know and be able to do at each grade level.

Local districts, schools, and parents know best what their students need to succeed.

Title I allows them to decide who will be served and what form the program will take in order to help students meet high standards.

Parents are partners in helping all students achieve.

School-level parent involvement policies are to include parent/school compacts, which spell out the goals, expectations, and shared responsibilities of schools and parents as partners in student’s success.

·         Provide after school, weekend, or summer school programs

·         Train teachers and other staff

·         Buy equipment and learning materials

·         Support parent involvement activities

·         Hire special teachers, tutors, or aides (usually in reading, language arts, and or/math)

How Title I money can be used for many types of parent involvement activities such as:

·         Family literacy

·         Parent meetings and training

·         Transportation and child care so parent can come to activities or volunteer

·         Provide materials that parents can use at home with their children

·         Parent resource center

All Title I programs have a plan for how it will involve parents. It is called a Parent Involvement Policy that explains how the school supports the important role of parents in education. The policy includes a compact, which is a written statement of what schools and parents are supposed to do to help students achieve.

How can you help?

·         Teaching your child in ways that add to what the teacher is teaching

·         Learning more about the school, curriculum and special programs

·         Participating and Supporting your child and the school

·         Making decisions about your child’s education

Some easy ways you can help:

·         Find out what your child is supposed to learn to meet the standards for his/her grade level

·         Find out what your child is being taught

·         Find out how the Title I program is helping your child meet the standards

·         Keep in contact with your child's teacher

·         Share a love for learning

·         Make sure your child does his/her homework

·         Attend parent/teacher conferences

·         Talk to your child about school

·         Become a school volunteer

·         Join PTO

·         Attend school events
